CARAQUET (CNB) - Residents of Villa Beauséjour in Caraquet today celebrated another step in the construction of their new $18.4-million nursing home with the unveiling of a graphic representation of the new facility.
The new 80-bed facility will offer modern facilities for residents and will be expanded in size to include an additional 18 nursing home beds. The new nursing home will offer improved dining, kitchen and recreation facilities and will be equipped with an improved ventilation system and additional storage. The new facility is expected to open in fall 2009.
The Province's renewed Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan will see an additional 177 nursing home beds created in New Brunswick and an investment of $132 million in nursing home infrastructure over the next three years.
Other nursing home projects include: Grand Falls, Fredericton, McAdam, Rexton, Riverside-Albert, Robertville, Shippagan, Tracadie-Sheila and Quispamsis.
While investing in infrastructure, the provincial government has prioritized investments that improve quality of care for nursing home residents. The provincial government has increased the hours of care in New Brunswick nursing homes resulting in the hiring of 190 new staff members.
The provincial government is also covering health-care costs incurred in nursing homes, and residents are now only required to pay a maximum of $70 per day for room and board.
