FREDERICTON (CNB) - Government House Leader Brad Green announced today the appointment of Michael Ferguson, CA, to the position of Auditor General of New Brunswick. As an officer of the Legislative Assembly, his appointment has received the support of the government and leaders of the opposition.
The appointment is effective Nov. 1, 2005.
"I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Ferguson to his new position," Green said. "I am sure that his more than 20 years experience working in government will prove helpful as he takes on his new responsibilities. We look forward to working with him."
Ferguson comes to the position of Auditor General following an extensive career with the government of New Brunswick in the Office of the Comptroller where he started in 1985 and had been assuming the position of Comptroller since April 1, 2000. Prior to that, he spent five years with the accounting and auditing firm Doane Raymond.
Ferguson has served on numerous boards and organizations. He is currently a member of the Board of New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is a past member of the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, a past member of PSAB task force on consolidations and a past member of PSAB task force on employee future benefits.
A graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a certified Chartered Accountant.
Ferguson and his wife Georgina have two children, Malcom and Geoffrey. He is the son of the late Dr. Gordon Ferguson, OC, and of Norma Ferguson.
In announcing the new Auditor General, Green also acknowledged the work of outgoing Auditor General, Daryl C. Wilson. "We would like to thank Mr. Wilson for his eight years of service to the people of New Brunswick," he said.
