Sept. 11, 2007

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Members of the public have until Sept. 30 to give their comments and opinions about the salaries, expenses and allowances paid to the 55 members of the Legislative Assembly to the MLA Compensation Review Commission.

Headed by retired Court of Appeal Justice Patrick A.A. Ryan, the commission was mandated in March of this year to review compensation paid to MLAs. Issues being examined are: salaries, non-taxable expense allowances, pension eligibility, expense allowance for career re-training, and re-establishment allowances for members who resign, are defeated, or choose not to re-offer.

The public can complete an online questionnaire on the commission website at: http://www.gnb.ca/legis/Promos/CRC-CER/index-e.asp. Written submissions can also be sent via e-mail to: mlacompensation@gnb.ca; by mail to MLA Compensation Review Commission 2007, P.O. Box 6000, 736 King St., Fredericton, NB E3B 5H1, or by fax at 506-444-5224.
