April 28, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following statement on the death of Harold Fanjoy was issued today by Premier Shawn Graham.

"It was with deep sadness and regret that we learned yesterday of the passing of Harold Fanjoy, former MLA for Kings Centre, minister of supply and services, and chairman of the Treasury Board. Fanjoy was a key player in New Brunswick politics for many years.

"Born Nov. 1, 1939, in Saint John, Fanjoy was educated at Saint John Vocational School, and at the New Brunswick Institute of Technology, studying accounting. After succeeding in business, he became involved in politics, joining the Progressive Conservative Association and becoming a member of the board of directors of the Fundy-Royal Progressive Conservative Association. Elected to the Legislature in 1974, he served in a number of positions before retiring from politics in 1987.

"Harold Fanjoy was well known for his passion to serve the people in his community, and was well-respected by his colleagues, regardless of which side of the house they sat on. He will be missed by all who knew and worked with him.

"On behalf of the Province of New Brunswick, I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of Harold Fanjoy for their loss."
