Let’s clear things up

Learn how cannabis and nicotine vaping impact development at all ages.

It’s time we clear things up when it comes to the serious health risks cannabis and nicotine can have for babies and youth.

The chemicals in cannabis are passed through blood to the unborn baby and through breast milk. Cannabis in all forms can affect a baby’s brain development if used while pregnant or breastfeeding. This includes products like joints, vapes, edibles, infused drinks and topicals, whether they contain THC or CBD.

Babies and youth are more likely to experience harm from cannabis and nicotine because their brains don't finish developing until their mid-20s. This harm may last months or years.

Cannabis use poses serious health risks to youth. Cannabis affects the same biological system responsible for brain development. It can lead to lasting problems with memory and learning. It can also cause teens to feel anxious and depressed.

Nicotine carries its own health risks. Teens are more likely to be harmed by nicotine as their brain develops. It can rewire the brain, changing how teens think and act. New research shows that vaping can harm the lungs and heart, and even lesser amounts of nicotine in vapes can have long-term side effects.
