Tuition reimbursement bursaries for paramedic and emergency medical technician students

Students enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution who sign a “Pay-to-Stay” return-of-service commitment may qualify for a tuition bursary after graduation.

Overview

Effective June 11, 2025, until March 31, 2026, the province is investing in a tuition reimbursement initiative for students who have successfully graduated from one of the provincially approved post-secondary education programs in New Brunswick to become a paramedic or an emergency medical technician.

Reimbursement

Students who are currently enrolled in one of the approved training programs OR will be enrolled before March 31, 2026, may qualify for a tuition reimbursement bursary covering tuition costs. To receive the bursary, they must successfully complete their training program, receive a license issued by the Paramedics Association of New Brunswick and enter a “Pay-to-Stay” return-of-service agreement with Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) upon graduation.

Upon successfully graduating from a program, and signing an employment contract with ANB, students’ request for the tuition rebate will proceed. There is no action required on the part of students.

Pay-to-Stay return-of-service agreements:

Primary and Advanced Care Paramedic (PCP and ACP) students:

  • The tuition reimbursement bursary will be issued in two payments:
    • The first allocation, representing 50% of the eligible costs incurred for tuition, will be issued directly to the graduate by Ambulance New Brunswick in the form of a non-taxable grant.
    • The remaining 50% of eligible costs incurred for tuition will be issued to the graduate upon confirmation that two  years of full-time service has been granted to Ambulance New Brunswick. This last payment will be issued directly to the graduate by Ambulance New Brunswick in the form of a non-taxable grant.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students:

  • The tuition reimbursement bursary will be issued in two payments:
    • The first allocation representing 50% of the eligible costs incurred for tuition will be issued directly to the graduate by Ambulance New Brunswick in the form of a non-taxable grant.
    • The remaining 50% of eligible costs incurred for tuition will only be issued to the graduate upon confirmation that one year of full-time service has been granted to Ambulance New Brunswick.
