So many reasons to show up at school

Let’s create a brighter future for New Brunswick by getting more children to show up at school.

Your child’s future starts with today’s attendance

From learning new things to making new friends, there are so many reasons to show up at school. Building friendships helps develop your social skills and can lead to lifelong connections. You also receive guidance from trusted adults and establish a structure to your day which helps develop a sense of responsibility and discipline.

Every day missed adds up

A growing number of young New Brunswickers are chronically absent from school. This means missing more than 10% of instructional time, which equates to four weeks of school per year.

If a student misses two days a month starting in kindergarten, by the time they reach grade nine they will have missed an entire year of school.

Every day really does add up.

Discover the data through the Chronic Absenteeism Dashboard.

Miss a day. Miss a lot.

Regular school attendance is more than good grades. When students miss class, they miss a lot more than the class. School is a place where young New Brunswickers can find:

  • new friends
  • fresh inspiration
  • mentors
  • routine
  • support and resources
  • valuable life lessons

Together, we can create a culture of attendance. Get involved and help us support student success.

Tips for getting kids to school

Getting your child to school starts with finding an approach that works well for the unique needs of your family. Some tips to make back-to-school resets easier include:

Get ahead of it

Prep what you need the night before and set alarms, so you have plenty of time to get ready in the morning.

Start your day on the right note

Establish a routine that gets kids out the door in time. This can be setting countdown timers or starting a new morning tradition.

Stay in touch with teachers

Stay in touch with teachers early if challenges arise, so solutions can be found quickly.

Better late than never

We encourage you to get kids to class even if it is a little late.
