Overview

In New Brunswick ceremonial and diplomatic activities are overseen by the Office of Protocol. This includes: 

  • planning and conducting official visits to New Brunswick by members of the Royal Family, the Governor General, heads of state and governments, members of the diplomatic and consular corps and senior ministers of foreign governments 
  • planning and coordinating international missions and events led by the premier or a minister 
  • planning and implementing large-scale events, programs, ceremonies and other officials' gatherings hosted by the provincial government  
  • providing advice and guidance to government departments, agencies and to the public on matters of protocol, forms of address, the flying of flags, and event planning such as seating plans and order of speaking 
  • managing all aspects of the Order of New Brunswick program 
  • maintaining the provincial order of precedence
