Making New Brunswick more accessible: Your Input, Because You Matter

Purpose

The Government of New Brunswick is committed to identifying, removing and preventing barriers to full participation in society. Your input is essential in shaping a more accessible province.

  • Making New Brunswick more accessible means listening to New Brunswickers and learning about the barriers they face.
  • There will be ongoing engagement on accessibility.
  • Feedback received will inform accessibility plans, standards and initiatives..
  • Government is also launching the first round of its annual benchmark survey. This will inform the current state of accessibility and identify common barriers in New Brunswick. By conducting this survey each year, we will be able to monitor changes in the state of accessibility in New Brunswick.

Participation

We want to hear from:

  • People with a disability and others who experience barriers
  • Families or close contacts who provide support to a person with a disability and/or who faces barriers
  • Businesses and organizations
  • First Nations and local governments
  • Community groups, advocates and service providers
  • All New Brunswickers impacted by accessibility

The Accessibility Act (June 2024)

  • Applies to everyone: government, businesses, post-secondary institutions, non-profits and the public.
  • Focuses on identifying, removing and preventing barriers to achieve greater accessibility in New Brunswick

The Act is guided by the principle of “Nothing without us.”

Survey Panel

  • Since the benchmark survey will be conducted annually, a panel is being created to make it easier to let people know about opportunities to participate each time.
  • When people register for the survey panel, it means that they won’t have to repeat their personal information when participating in the benchmark survey in the future.
  • Surveys will seek feedback from persons with a disability, and/or who experience barriers, family members or close contacts who provide support, and individuals working with or on behalf of persons with a disability.
  • Responses are confidential.

Benchmark Survey

Information will help us understand how accessible New Brunswick is today and it will provide the information needed to measure progress over time. This year, it will also be used to inform Government’s first accessibility plan. Surveys can be completed online, by phone or paper copy.
