Overview

Government recognizes that engagement is key to ensure accessibility improvements reflect the needs and experiences of New Brunswickers. The principle of “Nothing without us” is guiding the implementation of the Act.

Improving accessibility in New Brunswick is a transformational goal. It will take all-sector collaboration. The Government of New Brunswick is working to improve accessibility in all areas including service delivery, information sharing, providing accessible public spaces, and ensuring accessible employment practices.

The Accessibility Office is inviting all organizations, including local and First Nations governments, businesses, non-profits, and post-secondary institutions to submit a written, audio or video brief providing their feedback and recommendations on how to improve accessibility. Feedback will be used to inform the first 3-year Government Accessibility Plan, to be released December 2025.

The Accessibility Act, passed in 2024, aims to achieve a more accessible New Brunswick by identifying, removing and preventing barriers to accessibility, through the development of regulatory standards in:

  • Information and Communications
  • The built environment
  • Employment
  • Education
  • Government services
  • Transportation
  • Housing and
  • Sports and recreation
