Modernizing the Residential Tenancies Act

Current status: Closed

All feedback has been summarized in the What We Heard Report.

Overview

Modernizing the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) is a key priority for Housing NB. Under the leadership of the New Brunswick Housing Corporation (NBHC) we are advancing work to clarify and modernize rental rules to ensure a fair, practical framework for both tenants and landlords.

Over the past year, the Tenant and Landlord Relations Office (TLRO), supported by consultation and stakeholder engagement, has identified a broad set of gaps, inconsistencies, and outdated provisions in the Act through operational experience, early engagement, and analysis of emerging issues.

This survey is designed to validate and strengthen that work and ensure no remaining gaps are overlooked. Feedback collected through this process will help inform the development of a fully revised Act targeted for introduction in the Legislative Assembly by fall 2026.
