Speech from the Throne 2025

Primary care

• Increase the number of people with a doctor or nurse practitioner to 81 per cent by 2026.
• Increase access to a doctor or nurse practitioner within five days to 33.4 per cent in 2026.
• By 2028, at least 30 collaborative care clinics will be established across New Brunswick to ensure care is close to home and personal.

Mental health

• A 50-bed facility will be open for operation in summer 2026 to increase support to individuals with complex substance use issues.

• Final report of the review of NB Power is expected by March 2026.
• Committed to enabling 6,000 new housing starts a year.
• Deliver a homelessness action plan before the end of the year.

• Aim to have 3,600 designated child-care spaces open by March 31, 2026.
• Release new education plans next year, encompassing the early learning and child-care sector, as well as the kindergarten to Grade 12 public school system.

• Launch an economic development strategy to boost productivity, enhance private sector competitiveness and resiliency, and attract investment.
• Upgrade three cell towers and work with cellular mobility providers to install equipment and improve cellular services at three new sites in the years ahead.
• Unveil a full tourism strategy this fall.

• In collaboration with stakeholders and rightsholders, release a State of the Coast report in 2026 to serve as the foundation for identifying policy options and future action related to erosion control.
• Improve our outdoor air quality to “good or better” with a target of 76 per cent for 2026.
• Work in collaboration with NB Power, the federal government and First Nations partners to invest in wind projects that will support the province’s clean energy transition.

• Work to develop an anti-racism strategy in the coming year.
• Table legislation this session to amend the Public Health Act to enhance the independence of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
• Introduce pay transparency legislation in 2026 to promote fair wage and decrease wage discrimination.
