SAINT-QUENTIN (GNB) – The government is investing in community infrastructure in Saint-Quentin, with $1.5 million to replace a public swimming pool and $222,730 to expand La Moisson Public Library.
“This investment will benefit the community for generations,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “The new pool will provide a valuable space for community members to maintain an active lifestyle, and the library will serve as a vital resource for students and newcomers to continue to make social connections and expand their knowledge.”
The pool will replace the community’s aging outdoor facility. In addition to a main pool and wading pool, the new facility will offer water games, swimming lessons, aquatic exercise for seniors and rescue training.
Saint-Quentin has welcomed many new residents in recent years. The library expansion will provide additional resources and services, improve educational opportunities and foster greater community engagement for its growing population.
“This major financial contribution will help fulfil a long-standing public desire to replace facilities that are outdated but critical to the entire western Restigouche region,” said Saint-Quentin Mayor Nicole Somers. “In addition, the study rooms at the library have been an obvious need for the community over the past 15 years. It is therefore, with great joy, that the Town of Saint-Quentin welcomes these provincial contributions.”
Construction of the pool is scheduled to begin this spring.
