FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is providing $6.9 million to the New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council.

“The Research and Productivity Council has provided invaluable science and engineering expertise to New Brunswick and beyond for over 60 years,” said Jean-Claude D’Amours, acting minister of post-secondary education, training and labour. “We understand the value the council brings to New Brunswick, and we are proud to provide this assistance that will support their continued operations and help address infrastructure needs.”

Of this funding, $2.5 million will cover part of the council’s operational costs for 2025-26, $3 million will go toward building upgrades and $1.4 million will support development of a cost estimate for renewing the council’s infrastructure.

“We are beyond grateful for this investment in our organization, which comes at a crucial time,” said Diane Botelho, the council’s CEO and executive director. “This support will allow us to continue accelerating innovation, strengthen our capabilities, and continue providing technical solutions to our communities. With this support, the Research and Productivity Council is poised to make an even greater impact by driving advancements that benefit both industry and society. We look forward to fuelling progress for New Brunswickers by continuing to deliver impactful results.”

The council is a government-owned research and technology organization and helps safeguard communities by providing testing on things such as food, drinking and beach water, fish health diagnostics and dairy. It also provides industrial hygiene services, as well as science and engineering solutions to help businesses improve efficiency and productivity.

The New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council, created in 1962, has locations in Fredericton and Moncton. It offers services to about 1,000 clients around the world.
