FREDERICTON (GNB) – MyHealthNB has added new data tools to its website and mobile app to provide more health information to New Brunswickers.

People can now view the median wait times by surgical specialty and by facility across the province. This data reflects the time from when a patient is referred for surgery by a physician or specialist until the surgery is completed.

“We’re pleased to be giving New Brunswickers more access to information about wait times for various surgeons,” said Health Minister John Dornan. “We believe that, by giving New Brunswickers more information about the health-care system, we will help them become more engaged with their own care.”

This data is intended to give people an estimate of how long they may wait for surgery, depending on the medical specialty involved, and might help them explore different options based on the wait times at various facilities.

Dornan said it is important to remember that surgical cases are prioritized based on urgency. Patients with more urgent needs will be scheduled before those with less critical conditions.

The data will be updated regularly. Average wait times for each specialty and facility can vary depending on several factors, including surgical capacity, case complexity and available resources.

The latest data tools can be found under Health System Data on the MyHealthNB website or mobile app, as well as on the government’s website
