FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has declared June 8-14 to be Nursing Home Week to recognize nursing home employees and operators for their commitment to New Brunswick seniors.

“Your care, compassion, and tireless commitment to seniors make a huge difference in the lives of New Brunswickers every single day,” said Premier Susan Holt. “We are committed to ensuring seniors have choice in their care and continue to receive excellent care, in the right place, at the right time. We look forward to working together through this journey – to strengthen care, support workers and build a better future for New Brunswick seniors. Thank you for everything you do.”

There are 78 nursing homes currently operating in the province, providing 5,373 beds.

“Every senior is a member of the collective New Brunswick family,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, the minister responsible for seniors. “Nursing Home Week acknowledges the tireless support given to our aging community members by staff at nursing homes across the province.”

The 2025-26 provincial budget includes a $30.7 million increase in funding for seniors, which represents a 3.8 per cent increase from last year. That includes an investment of $22 million for nursing homes and specialized care beds.

“I have endless gratitude for every nursing home team member,” said Boudreau. “You take care of our elders with admirable empathy and respect, making sure our seniors can access essential services like transportation, doctor visits and daily medicine.”

On June 6, Holt and Boudreau signed a declaration at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Fredericton, recognizing nursing home partners, staff and caregivers for their dedication to seniors.
