FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Social Development is taking steps to avoid disruption of July’s social assistance cheques, given the potential work stoppage at Canada Post.
“The threat of job action leaves our most vulnerable in a difficult situation,” said Social Development Minister Cindy Miles. “New Brunswickers rely on these payments, and we are actively working to ensure people receive their cheques on time, without disruption.”
Monthly payments sent by direct deposit will be issued as usual. Clients without direct deposit may pick up their payments at local offices. Those clients may also make arrangements for direct deposit through their case worker or their local office.
