MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The opening of three new public housing developments in Miramichi will improve access to affordable housing in the region.
A duplex on Warren Avenue is already home to two families, while a 10-unit seniors complex on General Manson Way and a 10-unit family complex on Henderson Street will soon be completed.
“These 22 new living spaces will provide new affordable housing options for the region,” said David Hickey, the minister responsible for the New Brunswick Housing Corporation. “We know that people need access to safe places to live, and that’s why we’re pleased to be opening fresh new public housing units like these.”
There are now 3,873 public housing units: 2,111 family units, 1,686 senior units and 76 units for non-elderly singles.
The corporation also oversees 776 rural and Indigenous housing units across the province.
“We know that public housing units help to house so many New Brunswickers in need across the province, and we’re pleased to be adding these new spaces to the mix,” said Hickey. “We’re also working to manage, maintain, repair and refresh our existing stock across the province.”
The New Brunswick Housing Corporation has a variety of housing programs for renters and property owners to help address the government’s affordability and housing commitments.
Work is underway on 137 additional public housing units at 14 sites across the province.
