ST. JOHN’S (GNB) – Team New Brunswick returns home with 17 medals following two weeks of competition at the 2025 Canada Summer Games that took place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Triple medalist track athlete Dante Cormier, of Riverview, and wrestling gold medalist Pepper Pepperdene, of Richibucto, served as Sunday’s flag bearers, leading Team New Brunswick into Mary Brown’s Centre, site of the closing ceremony. Both Cormier and Pepperdene won their respective medals during the second week of competition.
“We are extremely pleased with our team’s performance,” said Nicole Smith, chef de mission. “Our team returns home with medals, personal and team best performances and lots of memories from the Canada Summer Games.”
Team New Brunswick returns with 17 medals: five gold (Dante Cormier, two, 100 metre and 400 metre men’s wheelchair events; Christel Robichaud, women’s para shot put, Shelby MacIsaac, women’s 400 metre hurdles; and Pepper Pepperdine, women’s 90 kg. wrestling category), seven silver (Dante Cormier, 1500 metre men’s wheelchair event; Christel Robichaud, women’s para discus; Max Mazerolle, men’s decathlon; Remi Ouellette, men’s para discus; Audrée LeBlanc, women’s shot put; Shelby MacIsaac, women’s 800 metre; and Molly Flynn, women’s road race cycling event), and five bronze (Jackson Banks, men’s 200 metre; Remi Ouellette, men’s para shot put; Molly Flynn, women’s road race cycling criterium; Chloe Richardson, women’s 73 kg. wrestling category; and Zachary Newman, men’s 100 metre breaststroke)
Several disciplines recorded best performances during the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Athletics garnered 12 medals; the team’s highest-ever medal Canada Games appearance. Men’s softball finished fifth in the standings for best placement ever. Silver men’s decathlon medalist Max Mazerolle, of Dieppe, set a new Canada Games record in the 110 m hurdles while Arizona Peck, of Riverview, tossed the first-ever no hitter in a Canada Games women’s baseball game. Both women’s baseball and men’s rugby sevens made their respective debut at these Games.
The Claude Hardy Award was presented to Team New Brunswick. The award is bestowed upon the provincial or territorial Mission team that best exhibits leadership, cooperation, integrity and esprit de corps.
Team New Brunswick was represented by 355 athletes supported by 106 coaches, managers, technical staff and mission team members and competed in artistic swimming, athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, box lacrosse, canoe kayak, cycling (road and mountain bike), golf, rugby sevens, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
The Games, which alternates every two years between summer and winter games, are one of the largest multi-sport events held in the country. The 2027 Canada Winter Games will be held in Quebec City, Quebec from February 27 to March 14, 2027.
The next Canada Summer Games will be held in Moncton and the Saint John Region in 2029.
