Flynn wins second medal as Team New Brunswick prepares for second week of competition at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s

ST. JOHN’S (GNB) – Fredericton’s Molly Flynn won a bronze medal in the women’s road cycling criterium Saturday at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Flynn’s medal performance is her second cycling medal and Team New Brunswick’s third medal of the Canada Summer Games. Flynn won a silver medal in the women’s road race cycling event Wednesday. Zachary Newman, of Bathurst, won a bronze medal in the men’s 50-metre breaststroke event earlier in the week to claim the team’s first medal.

Flynn’s cycling teammates Laurence Arseneau placed 17th with Mikaya Hoyt-Hogan finishing in 19th and Émilie McIntyre placing 23rd in the women’s event for Team New Brunswick. Maxime Ouellette, William Banfield, Colby Sirois and Liam Moores finished 11th, 18th, 31st and 36th respectively in the men’s criterium event.

Week one competition wrapped up Saturday with a fifth-place finish in men’s beach volleyball. The women’s team placed sixth in their event. Both men’s and women’s basketball teams placed eighth in their respective categories. Team New Brunswick’s tennis squad finished ninth in their event. Sailing concluded as well with the women’s 29er placing fourth. The women’s and men’s single handed ILCA both placed eighth in their events.

Earlier the week, women’s softball placed fourth while women’s lacrosse came eighth. Men’s soccer completed the Games in sixth spot and men’s baseball placed tenth. Both women’s and men’s rugby sevens teams finished their competition Wednesday, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.

Sunday is turnaround day: week one participants head home to New Brunswick and week two athletes arrive in St. John’s in the afternoon.

Second-week competition will consist of athletics, artistic swimming, women’s baseball, men’s box lacrosse, golf, mountain bike, women’s soccer, men’s softball, wrestling and men’s and women’s volleyball.
