SAINT JOHN (GNB) – Twenty new generalist care beds have been added to the province’s long-term care system.
Meadow Valley Manor in Saint John has expanded to accommodate the new beds; these are the first generalist care beds to be opened in the region.
“This expansion and these new beds will help more New Brunswickers get the care they have been waiting for,” said Social Development Minister Cindy Miles. “We want to do all we can to help get people off of waiting lists and into care homes, like Meadow Valley Manor here in Saint John.”
Generalist care beds are typically used for residents who do not need 24-hour nursing care, but still require assistance due to health conditions or limitations. Each resident will have a personalized care plan to ensure his or her needs are met.
“This means that residents are able to live with dignity, receiving the quality care they deserve in safe, respectful environments,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors. “The positive impact that a truly caring environment can have on a person’s wellness is immense.”
“This new wing is more than bricks and mortar,” said Joyce Barrett, founder and CEO of Meadow Valley Manor. “It’s a space where innovation meets empathy, and where our seniors will continue to be seen, heard and valued.”
The Department of Social Development provides funding for more than 5,300 nursing home beds and more than 7,600 adult residential facility beds across the province.
