FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1251, which represents more than 750 people, have signed a new collective agreement.
The union’s membership consists of correctional officers, cooks, laundry and custodial workers, human services counsellors and others.
“These employees serve critical roles in our public safety sector, and we appreciate their dedication and hard work,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy. “Our thanks to the efforts from negotiators on both sides in reaching this agreement.”
The agreement includes a general wage increase of $5 per hour over four years, retroactive to June 16, 2022. Employees will receive hourly wage increases of $1 in the first year, $1.10 in the second year, $1.30 in the third year, and $1.60 in the fourth year.
There are also incentives and premiums to address recognition and retention issues, along with increases to the safety boot allowance and additional premiums for evening and weekend shifts. The vacation entitlement structure has been revised to give employees greater access to vacation days.
All collective agreements with the provincial government are available online.
