FREDERICTON (GNB) - The following message of condolence was issued by Premier Susan Holt on the passing of jockey Ron Turcotte:

An accomplished jockey, Drummond's Ron Turcotte is best known for riding Secretariat to win horseracing's triple crown in 1973. Over his impressive career, he earned more than 3,000 wins.  After injuries from a fall left him paralyzed, he became an advocate for the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund, assisting other injured riders.

Mr. Turcotte has been recognized throughout his lifetime for his achievements. He is a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame, the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Order of Canada.

On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and all those who are mourning his loss.
