ST. JOHN’S (GNB) – Tantramar’s Ella Tucker will be Team New Brunswick’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s Saturday at 7 p.m. NDT (6:30 p.m. ADT).
“I am extremely honoured to be chosen out of the many other worthy New Brunswick athletes to carry our provincial flag and lead Team New Brunswick at this year's opening ceremony,” said Tucker. “I am incredibly proud and grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent New Brunswick at my second Canada Games, my first being the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario.”
Team New Brunswick chef de mission Nicole Smith made the announcement today before athletes, coaches and managers left for week-one competition.
Tucker, 20, is a member of the Club de Natation Bleu et Or. She will lead the New Brunswick delegation into Mary Brown’s Centre, the site of the opening ceremony.
Tucker won bronze in para women’s 100-metre breaststroke at the 2022 Games. She holds several provincial records in para swimming and, in the last 18 months, has held two Canadian records in para women’s S5 50-metre butterfly and para women’s SM5 200-metre individual medley. As her records have since been broken, it is one of Tucker’s personal goals to reclaim both records during this year’s Games. In addition to the 2022 Games, Tucker has competed in the 2023 Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships, the 2024 Speedo Western Canadian Championships, the 2024 Bell Canadian Paralympic Trials and the 2022 and 2024 editions of the Ken Demchuk International Invitational; at the 2024 Ken Demchuk event, Tucker won gold in para women’s SB5 100-metre breaststroke.
