MONCTON (GNB) – The government is providing up to $1.5 million in additional funding to a non-profit organization, Feed NB, to supply food banks across the province.
“This investment is about addressing the growing demand at food banks and ensuring no one is left behind,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “By supporting Feed NB, we are helping thousands of New Brunswickers access the healthy food they need.”
The government, through the Regional Development Corporation, is providing the funding to help offset the rising costs of food associated with tariffs and increased demand at food banks. This funding is in addition to $1 million the Department of Health provided earlier this year.
“On behalf of Feed NB and our partner agencies, I want to thank the provincial government for recognizing the urgent need in our communities,” said Stéphane Sirois, the organization’s executive director. “This funding will allow us to continue supplying food banks and community kitchens across the province with the healthy food people depend on. By working together, we can make sure New Brunswick families have the support they need.”
The organization collects and stores food, which it then distributes to 67 partner agencies across the province, including food banks and community kitchens.
“With this funding, Feed NB will be able to continue to provide more healthy, local food and beverages to New Brunswickers in need,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Pat Finnigan. “We appreciate Feed NB’s commitment to purchasing locally sourced food and beverages directly from farmers and producers for food banks across the province. Our department is committed to supporting the important role of our food and beverage industry in this initiative.”
