CARAQUET (GNB) – The government is investing nearly $500,000 in AmiSoleil, a program of the Centre de bénévolat de la Péninsule acadienne, to support its move into a new building in Caraquet.

“This funding will help AmiSoleil continue to be there for families when they need it most,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “By supporting their move to a new building, we are helping to ensure that essential services remain accessible, and that the organization can better meet the growing needs of the community.”

AmiSoleil operates the local food bank and thrift shop in the Caraquet region. It also serves people from Rivière-du-Nord and part of Hautes-Terres. The relocation is considered a priority, as demand for its services continues to grow and the new location will be accessible to more people.

The initiative aligns with the government’s poverty reduction priorities, supporting community-based projects that help residents meet their basic needs.

“Without the contribution of the government of New Brunswick, it would have been impossible for us to make our project a reality,” said Martine Haché, executive director of the Centre de bénévolat de la Péninsule acadienne. “The purchase of a new building and its expansion allows the team at AmiSoleil to offer better service to the people of our community and to respond more effectively to a growing demand, for both the food bank and the thrift store.”
