OTTAWA (GNB) – Premier Susan Holt and five provincial cabinet ministers have concluded a mission to Ottawa to advance New Brunswick’s priorities with federal government partners and national stakeholders.
The delegation held a series of meetings with federal ministers, members of Parliament, senators and business leaders to discuss projects of national interest, including the Quebec-New Brunswick pipeline, the Sisson mine and expansions at the ports of Saint John and Belledune.
“Our message was clear: New Brunswick is ready to deliver nation-building projects that create jobs, strengthen energy security and expand Canada’s trade capacity,” said Holt. “We were pleased to see strong awareness of our priorities in Ottawa and real interest in partnering with us to move these projects forward.”
The mission featured meetings with:
• federal Internal Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who is also minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs and One Canadian Economy
• federal Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson
• federal Finance and National Revenue Minister François-Philippe Champagne
• federal Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Rebecca Alty
• federal Health Minister Marjorie Michel
• federal Housing and Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson
• federal Veterans Affairs Minister Jill McKnight
• federal Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Lena Metlege Diab
• federal Emergency Management and Community Resilience Minister Eleanor Olszewski
• Saint John-Kennebecasis MP Wayne Long, who is also federal secretary of state for the Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions
• Vancouver Quadra MP Wade Grant, who is parliamentary secretary to the federal minister of environment and climate change
Holt also addressed the Canada 2020 conference, where she emphasized New Brunswick’s role in the clean energy transition and the province’s position as Canada’s Atlantic gateway to global markets.
“New Brunswick is ready to deliver the projects Canada needs right now: energy, trade, infrastructure and developing critical minerals that will drive the economy forward,” said Holt.
She was joined in Ottawa by Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Jean-Claude D'Amours, who is also minister of post-secondary education and training; Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy, who is also minister of energy; Health Minister John Dornan; Natural Resources Minister John Herron; and Luke Randall, minister responsible for Opportunities NB and minister responsible for economic development and small business.
The mission concluded with a reception that brought together Atlantic Canadian parliamentarians, business leaders and stakeholders to help strengthen collaboration on shared goals.
