HAUTES-TERRES (GNB) – Villa St-Isidore, a 60-bed nursing home in Hautes-Terres, and Villa Saint-Joseph, a 79-bed nursing home in Tracadie, are both joining the Nursing Home Without Walls program.

The program aims to address specific needs of the community by offering services to older adults who wish to remain in their own homes. These may include in-person social visits, assistance in accessing government programs and services, and activities designed to strengthen social connections and reduce isolation.

“We are continuing to ensure that seniors in New Brunswick are able to live in their homes independently, while still having access to the supports they need,” said Premier Susan Holt. “This expansion is another step toward our goal of providing quality care to seniors in every corner of our province.”

Services offered through these locations will include:

  • educational sessions
  • access to information and support services
  • wellness check-ins
  • support for caregivers
  • transportation

“It's so heartening to know that, because of this expansion, more seniors will be receiving care on their terms, and at the right times for them,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors. “I'm very grateful to the hard-working caregivers at Villa St-Isidore and Villa Saint-Joseph for providing these essential services to their communities in a new way.”

There are 30 Nursing Home Without Walls sites in the province. This initiative began in New Brunswick and has attracted national attention, with nursing homes across the country expressing interest in adopting a similar approach.

“It's important that seniors are able to age in safe, respectful environments, and that they feel valued and listened to,” said Norbert Comeau, president of the board of directors of Villa Saint-Joseph, which also operates Villa St-Isidore. “We’re proud to be partnering with the Nursing Home Without Walls program to help deliver care to seniors while making sure they can stay connected to the communities they call home.”
