QUISPAMSIS (GNB) – More than $50 million dollars from the Canada Community-Building Fund will be available to New Brunswick communities this year for local infrastructure projects.

“This money will help local governments across the province build and revitalize their local public infrastructure while creating jobs and long-term prosperity,” said Local Government Minister Aaron Kennedy. “This valuable partnership will help our communities grow and become even more vibrant.”

The fund provides communities with predictable and flexible funding and has 19 categories of eligible projects, including local roads, highways and bridges; regional and local airports; drinking water; wastewater infrastructure; solid waste management; community energy systems; recreation; culture; tourism; and fire halls.

The Town of Quispamsis, for example, will receive $1.4 million this year to continue work on three projects related to streets, wastewater and drinking water.

“Building a strong Canada starts with building strong communities,” said Saint John-Kennebecasis MP Wayne Long. “This investment will boost infrastructure projects that support housing to create connected communities. We are proud to invest in the critical infrastructure that helps communities across New Brunswick advance local priorities and support long-term growth.”

Long attended for federal Housing and Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson.

The provincial and federal governments signed a new 10-year agreement for the fund last year. In the first five years, New Brunswick will receive $254.8 million.
