SHEDIAC (GNB) – The official opening has been held for a 190-bed nursing home complex in Shediac.

Maison Providence, to be operated by Comfort Life Network, will begin welcoming residents in January. It replaces the nearby 174-bed Villa Providence, providing additional beds to the nursing home system.

“This new, modernized nursing home is more than a building; it reflects a commitment to seniors,” said Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors. “It ensures they have the right supports at the right time, delivered by the right people who are dedicated to their comfort, dignity and well-being. I want to thank everyone involved in making this a reality.”

Maison Providence consists of five 30-bed homes and two 20-bed homes. The complex includes social, living and dining spaces, as well as landscaped outdoor spaces for residents, staff and family members to enjoy.

The facility also has a specialized unit for psychogeriatric care.

“As we open these doors, we’re opening new possibilities for seniors to thrive,” said Ronald LeBlanc, CEO of Comfort Life Network. “This home is a testament to our belief that quality care is not just a service; it’s a responsibility we proudly uphold.”

Boudreau said the government is continuing to make progress on building a long-term care system centred on dignity, safety and quality of care.
