FREDERICTON (GNB) – A report summarizing engagement from the public, rights-holders and stakeholders has been released by the people conducting a review of NB Power.

“We want to thank New Brunswickers for adding their voices to this important endeavour,” said Anne Bertrand on behalf of her fellow leads Michael Bernstein and Duncan Hawthorne. “Whether it was in person, by email or as part of our survey, we heard many concerns and suggestions from those who care about reliable and affordable service from NB Power, now and into the future.”

Bertrand said six key themes emerged from the engagement process, and all are explored in the report:

  • concern over rising rates and affordability
  • better and clearer communications from NB Power
  • a focus on better performance and cost control
  • the need for an integrated and long-term provincial energy strategy
  • better governance within the company and from politicians
  • the importance of transitioning to a cleaner future

The report is available on the review website.

The review announced last April is focused on four areas: financial sustainability, governance and utility structure, customer expectations, and investor attractiveness and strategic partnerships. Final recommendations from the review are expected by the end of March.
