FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following is a statement from Justice Minister and Attorney General Robert McKee:

Our government supports the role of health authority boards and recognizes their importance to a strong and accountable health-care system. That is why we announced earlier this week that we will introduce legislation to restore elected members and expand the membership of New Brunswick’s regional health authority boards. We are deeply committed to respecting, promoting and advancing both official languages in New Brunswick.

We believe the decision raises important legal questions that require further clarification. An appeal will allow the courts to provide greater clarity on the interpretation and application of the ruling, helping to ensure government has clear guidance on any potential impact on its operations and decision-marking processes.

Our respect for the French linguistic community and for the principle of linguistic equality remains fundamental to our government and to who we are as a province.

The government of New Brunswick will be filing an appeal of the Dec. 30, 2025, decision of the Court of King’s Bench. The decision to appeal is about ensuring clarity for the future governance of our health-care system.
