QUISPAMSIS (GNB) – The government is investing up to $370,000 to support the expansion and modernization of the Kennebecasis Valley Food Basket.
The funding is meant to help address food insecurity in the region and rising demand for the service.
“Organizations like the Kennebecasis Valley Food Basket play a critical role in supporting families and individuals who are facing real challenges,” said Local Government Minister Aaron Kennedy. “By investing in this expansion, we are helping ensure people in the Kennebecasis Valley have access to safe, reliable and respectful food services, and that this organization can continue meeting growing community needs.”
Kennedy spoke on behalf of Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
The food bank’s facility will be expanded and upgraded, providing a better layout for receiving, sorting, storing and preparing food. It will also create more efficient areas for food hamper preparation and distribution, as well as space for client workshops that focus on financial literacy, budgeting, nutrition, meal planning and healthy eating.
“This generous funding from the Regional Development Corporation will help us over the finish line of our expansion and renovation project,” said Kennebecasis Valley Food Basket president Brian Rignanesi. “Once completed, we can get started at providing improved client services, not only in our food preparation and disbursement, but also various programs to help our clients with other issues that play a role in them being challenged by food insecurity.”
