FREDERICTON (GNB) – New data indicates the government made progress on its environmental priorities over the last year.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage said efforts continue to decarbonize the economy through strategic investments, collaboration and evidence-based decisions.
“This important work is laying a solid foundation for the future health of our environment and our beautiful province,” said LePage. “The results we accomplished so far demonstrate our government’s continued commitment to providing New Brunswickers with transparency, accountability and trusted leadership.”
The reduction target for greenhouse gas emissions per million dollars of GDP was surpassed by 18 per cent. The goal of energy efficiency savings for homes and businesses was exceeded by 71 per cent, and there were also improvements in transportation sector efficiency. In addition, the government met its outdoor air quality target and is working to establish baseline air quality measures in schools.
Data outlining the progress on these environmental priorities and others is available online.
