FREDERICTON (GNB) – As the government prepares its 2026-27 budget, New Brunswickers are being asked to provide their input on key financial decisions.

Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy said the pre-budget consultation highlights the importance of maintaining a sustainable path forward while addressing the evolving needs of residents.

“New Brunswickers have told us very clearly what matters to them: accessible health care, making life more affordable, and a strong education system,” said Legacy. “Building a budget that reflects the priorities of New Brunswickers requires thoughtful planning and collective input. We know there are difficult decisions ahead, but, by working together, we can identify responsible approaches to secure our province’s future.”

A report has been developed to guide the pre-budget consultation process, exploring a range of options for saving money or generating additional revenue. These include reviewing programs to identify efficiencies, restructuring service delivery to reduce costs, and cost-recovery measures for specific services. Opportunities to increase revenue could include tolls on out-of-province vehicles or adjusted fees for government services. A list of these options is available online.

Residents are encouraged to share their feedback to identify priority areas and shape the decisions that will promote fiscal sustainability. The deadline to submit feedback is Feb. 20. People can share their submissions by email at [email protected] or by mail to: The Hon. René Legacy, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, P.O. Box 6000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5H1.

Feedback may also be submitted online. In addition, organizations are invited to submit ideas for change; new ways of doing things that may lead to improved results.

“We are committed to making decisions that reflect the needs and priorities of New Brunswickers,” said Legacy. “Their voices are essential as we work to transform how we deliver services while ensuring the province’s financial stability.”
