FREDERICTON (GNB) – The New Brunswick Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the 2026 New Brunswick Human Rights Awards until May 31.

The award was established in 1988 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was drafted in part by John Peters Humphrey of Hampton. In 2019, the commission created the Youth Human Rights Award, which honours the contributions of young people across the province. Together, these awards recognize individuals and organizations whose work has advanced human rights in New Brunswick.

“Across New Brunswick, people are quietly and courageously shaping a more just province through their everyday actions,” said commission chairperson Amber Chisholm. “The Human Rights Awards offer us a moment to bring that work into the light, and I encourage New Brunswickers to nominate a person or group whose commitment to dignity, equality and inclusion is helping move us all forward.”

The nomination form and more information about the process is available on the commission’s website or by calling the commission at 1-888-471-2233.
