Office of Women and Gender Equity
March 31, 2026
FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for women and gender equity:
Today marks International Transgender Day of Visibility – a time to recognize and celebrate the diversity, achievements and contributions of transgender and gender-diverse people in New Brunswick and beyond. It is also a time to listen, learn, and reflect on the realities many continue to face.
Visibility matters. When transgender individuals are seen, heard and respected, it helps break down stigma and build a more inclusive society. But visibility on its own is not enough. Too many transgender people still encounter barriers to employment, health care, and the full recognition of their rights. Too often transgender people experience violence and discrimination at disproportionate rates.
Addressing these challenges calls for meaningful action. It means improving access to safety and security, strengthening protections against discrimination, and creating more welcoming spaces in every community.
Recently, the Office of Women’s Equality evolved into the Office of Women and Gender Equity. This change reflects our government’s dedication to ensuring inclusion and equity for all New Brunswickers and affirms the experiences and identities of everyone.
Our government remains committed to advancing gender equality in every form – because true progress includes transgender and gender-diverse people, without exception.
