Office of Women and Gender Equity

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for women and gender equity, in recognition of International Women’s Day:

On March 8, we recognize and celebrate the women who have shaped our history and continue to help build a better future.

While it is important to acknowledge the progress that has been made toward gender equity, we must remain focused on the work that lies ahead. In New Brunswick, too many people still face gender-based violence, discrimination, and systemic barriers. Together, we must continue working to break down those barriers and create a more equitable future for everyone.

As part of our efforts to build inclusive and equitable communities, I am proud to announce that Women’s Equality is becoming the Office of Women and Gender Equity.

This new name reflects our expanded mission: to promote inclusion, strengthen equity, and protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of gender.

It is a recognition of the crucial role that women and gender-diverse people play in our society. Their work, advocacy and leadership continue to transform our institutions and advance equity for all.

This International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment – both collectively and individually – to fostering a future where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. Let us take this moment to honour the stories of the past while charting an even more inclusive and just path forward.
