FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued by Energy Minister René Legacy:

After almost a year, I am happy to have the final report from the comprehensive review of NB Power.

The leads have identified some significant challenges and recommendations for how to address them.

I want New Brunswickers to understand that while there may not be one simple fix, our government is committed to take this report and make the necessary bold decisions.

We have a lot of work ahead of us to review this report and create a concrete action plan. This action plan will address the report’s 50 recommendations and deliver results for the future stability of NB Power and help rebuild trust in New Brunswick’s public utility. We are committed to delivering our next steps by the end of May.

New Brunswickers can trust that we will act on these recommendations in a timely and transparent way. That work has already begun, and we look forward to sharing more.

I want to thank Ms. Bertrand, Mr. Hawthorne and Mr. Bernstein for delivering their recommendations, and for their commitment to doing this work with New Brunswickers at the table.

And a special thank you to the many New Brunswickers who contributed – by joining a public session online or in person, responding to the survey or sending an email to the committee. You have helped shape this work and our path forward.

Moving forward, we must work together to ensure NB Power can grow responsibly while transitioning to clean energy in an affordable, competitive and financially sustainable way.
