EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – Les Résidences Jodin, a 180-bed nursing home in Edmundston, has joined the Nursing Home Without Walls program.

The program provides free assistance to seniors in their own homes by leveraging the existing services and resources of community nursing homes.

“This program demonstrates our commitment to innovating in order to better support our seniors,” said Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau. “We know they deserve tailored assistance that allows them to remain in their own homes and connected to their community while maintaining their autonomy. The Nursing Home Without Walls program highlights a human and inclusive approach rooted in collaboration and listening to the needs of communities.”

Among the services to be offered by the nursing home will be:

·         social activities and workshops

·         snow removal

·         lawn mowing

·         equipment lending

·         training for caregivers

“The Nursing Home Without Walls program is intended to be evolutionary,” said Amélie Deschênes, executive director of Les Résidences Jodin. “Community needs are continuously assessed in order to adapt and develop the services offered based on local realities. By focusing on listening, support and collaboration, this program helps build an inclusive, supportive and responsive community that addresses its residents’ needs.”

Thirty-five nursing homes have joined the program, offering a variety of services ranging from social visits and community activities to referrals to government programs and services.

Since the program began in 2019, it has provided more than 120,000 services to more than 5,200 seniors. The initiative, launched in New Brunswick, continues to attract interest across Canada. It has been championed by Healthcare Excellence Canada, which is working to share it nationwide.
