FREDERICTON (GNB) – Applications are now available for the 2026 Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit, which provides $629 in annual financial support to eligible seniors.

“We know that rising costs are making everyday essentials harder to afford for many seniors,” said Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau. “This benefit plays an important role in helping seniors maintain their independence, and we are committed to ensuring they can access this support as quickly and easily as possible.”

To qualify for the benefit, a person must be 60 years of age or older, a resident of New Brunswick, and receiving one of the following federal benefits under the Old Age Security Act:

  • Guaranteed Income Supplement (must be 65 years or older)
  • Allowance Program (must be 60-64 years old)
  • Allowance for the Survivor Program (must be 60-64 years old)

If both spouses receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement and live in the same household, only one benefit will be granted. However, if spouses live separately (for example, if one resides in a nursing home), both will be eligible for the benefit.

People may apply until Dec. 31. Applications may be submitted online; forms are also available at Service New Brunswick locations.
