SAINT JOHN (GNB) – A coroner’s inquest into the death of Aaliyah Burrell will be held April 13-17 at the Saint John courthouse, 10 Peel Plaza.

Burrell died on March 12, 2021, and the manner of death has not yet been identified.

Regional coroner Jérome Ouellette and a jury will publicly hear evidence from witnesses to determine facts surrounding the death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal court proceeding that allows for the public presentation of all evidence relating to a death. The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent fact-finding agency that may not make any finding of legal responsibility.

The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with jury selection.
