RIVERVIEW (GNB) – Work is underway to add 60 long-term care beds in Riverview.

A multimillion-dollar expansion project will add capacity to Shannex’s Parkland Riverview campus to better serve seniors in the region.

“Today we are delivering on an important commitment from our long-term care plan to increase nursing home beds in the province so that New Brunswickers can get the care they need, close to home and loved ones,” said Premier Susan Holt. “This project reflects our continued commitment to enhancing long-term care and investing in community-based care.”

The government has committed to adding 240 nursing home beds at sites operated by Shannex in the next two years.

“Putting the well-being of our seniors at the heart of our priorities reflects our collective commitment,” said Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau. “Together, we are strengthening our workforce, modernizing our infrastructure and improving access to quality care, delivered with compassion.”

The expansion is part of the government’s recently unveiled strategy, Stronger Care for Seniors: A Long-Term Care Plan for New Brunswick. Supported by a $993-million investment in the 2026-27 budget, the plan includes 624 new long-term care beds and other initiatives to strengthen long-term care services for seniors.

“This new nursing home in Riverview holds special significance for us, because this is where our journey in New Brunswick first began 27 years ago,” said Shannex president Jason Shannon. “Today, we are proud of the longstanding partnership we’ve built with the provincial government, which has enabled us to grow our New Brunswick team to 2,100 dedicated professionals who provide safe, welcoming homes for residents to receive the care they deserve.”

The expansion is expected to be completed by the fall of 2028.
