HAUTES-TERRES (GNB) – The government is supporting 173 local, regional and provincial grassroots projects that will share a total of $7.9 million through the Environmental Trust Fund.

At an announcement in Hautes-Terres today, Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage announced 29 community-based projects across the Acadian Peninsula that are receiving a combined total of $986,230 from the fund.

The initiatives have a range of goals, from protecting the environment and managing waste to addressing climate change.

“These projects will have a positive impact in the region and will contribute to building a better, more sustainable province for all New Brunswickers,” said LePage. “Our government is committed to protecting, preserving and enhancing the natural environment of our province, now and for future generations.”

Since its inception in 1990, the Environmental Trust Fund has supported community-based initiatives that focus on several priority areas: environmental protection, raising environmental awareness, waste management, addressing climate change and building sustainable communities.

“Our projects demonstrate the importance of working together to preserve the health of our watershed and to implement the objectives of our 2024-28 strategic plan,” said Jean-Luc Boudreau, executive director of the Comité de gestion environnementale de la rivière Pokemouche. “Protecting our waterways today means investing in the future of our region’s communities.”

More information, including a list of approved projects and initiatives, is available on the Environmental Trust Fund website.
