Funding allocated for replacement of Little River No. 1 bridge

GRAND FALLS (GNB) – The government is investing about $18 million for the replacement of the Little River No. 1 bridge in Grand Falls.

“The Little River No. 1 bridge is a vital link in a key strategic corridor that supports economic activity in the region,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson. “This important investment in the community and regional economy will ensure continued connectivity and access for years to come.”

Originally built in 1930, the single-span reinforced concrete arch bridge has reached the end of its service life; an evaluation in 2024 identified significant deterioration in the bridge’s structural components.

The new bridge will feature a modern three-lane design, ensuring enhanced capacity, safety and efficiency for travellers.

The project will also include several roadway improvements and reconfigurations to ease traffic flow at the Route 108 intersections with Burgess Street and Route 130.

Although construction on the bridge is not scheduled to begin until next year, preparation work – such as clearing and utilities relocation – will begin this fall.
