MONCTON (GNB) – New Brunswick’s public libraries have joined the biggest bilingual summer reading club in the country.
The TD Summer Reading Club, which was developed by the Toronto Public Library, has expanded steadily since 1996. Thanks to a title sponsorship with TD Bank Group, and in partnership with Library and Archives Canada, the program is now offered nationwide.
“It’s exciting to see New Brunswick’s public libraries are joining in on this Canada-wide initiative,” said Post-Secondary Education and Training Minister Jean-Claude D’Amours. “Our libraries already have so much to offer, and this will enable our young readers to have even more fun this summer.”
Among other things, children in the club can:
• create an online notebook
• read ebooks
• vote in the Battle of the Books
• review books
• participate in weekly trivia
“We are so excited to be joining more than 2,000 public libraries across Canada in the TD Summer Reading Club,” said Ella Nason, executive director of the New Brunswick Public Library Service. “Reading clubs like this keep minds active, build lifelong reading habits, and turn learning into a fun, shared experience.”
Children and parents can create an account online or visit their local public library to register in person. Children who register at the library will receive a free notebook and stickers to track their reading. Local libraries will also have fun activities and initiatives for children to enjoy.
The TD Summer Reading Club is intended for kids of all ages, interests and abilities.
