MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial government, through the Regional Development Corporation, is investing $363,000 to support three community infrastructure projects in Miramichi.

“Investing in community infrastructure helps to create places where people can come together, stay active and enjoy their communities,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “The new splash pad will give families and residents another place to enjoy the outdoors, while investments at Dr. Losier Middle School and the Beaverbrook Kin Centre will strengthen recreation and meeting opportunities.”

The City of Miramichi is receiving $250,000 to support construction of a splash pad on the former site of the Ian Baillie Primary School, which the city plans to develop as a recreational hub.

An investment of $50,000 will support revitalization of outdoor athletic facilities at Dr. Losier Middle School. The project will restore the existing basketball court and install two new pickleball courts, providing students with additional opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi is receiving $63,000 for exterior upgrades to the Beaverbrook Kin Centre. The work includes replacing wooden windows with modern, energy-efficient ones and repairing sections of the building’s brick facade.

“This is great news for families across Miramichi,” said Mayor Veronique Arsenault. “The splash pad at the former Ian Baillie school site is the start of a recreation hub our residents have been asking for, and the work at Dr. Losier and the Beaverbrook Kin Centre will make well-loved spaces even better. This is an opportunity for generations to continue to make wonderful memories together and the perfect spot to cool off during those hot summer days. Thank you to the province for investing in the places where our community comes together.”
