FREDERICTON (GNB) – Renée Roy has been appointed as a provincial court judge in Moncton.
“Ensuring access to an impartial and effective justice system for the people of New Brunswick is an essential responsibility of government,” said Justice Minister Robert McKee. “Renée Roy is highly qualified and has demonstrated a strong commitment to justice throughout her career. Her attributes will serve our province well and I wish her every success in her new role.”
Renée Roy graduated from St. Thomas University in 2005 with a bachelor of criminology and psychology and from the Université de Moncton in 2010 with a bachelor of laws. She has experience in private practice and was most recently a Crown prosecutor in the specialized prosecutions unit.
The appointment brings the number of full-time provincial court judges to 28, including the chief judge and associate chief judge. There is also one supernumerary judge and 10 per diem judges.
All applications for appointment to the provincial court are assessed by the provincial judicial appointment review advisors who represent the bench, the bar and the general public. The advisors consider the professional and other qualifications of each candidate in carrying out their assessments. The appointment process also includes interviews by a committee composed of the chief justice of New Brunswick, the chief judge and/or associate chief judge of the provincial court, and one of the provincial judicial appointment review advisors representing the general public.
