What we do

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is responsible for cultivating learning environments in which children and youth can develop the qualities and competencies needed to be lifelong learners and achieve personal fulfillment. We are responsible for developing and regulating the child-care sector, curriculum development, teacher certification, provincial assessments and evaluations, and supporting public schools in the province. We work with childcare operators, service providers for preschool interventions, seven school districts, 296 schools, parents and over 100,000 students across the province.

Land acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that New Brunswick is situated on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqey, Mi'gmaw, and Peskotomuhkati peoples. We seek to repair and rebuild meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples and honour these lands which hold the hopes of future generations.
