Department of Post-Secondary, Training and Labour 

What we do  

The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is responsible for overseeing post-secondary education and labour-related initiatives to promote economic growth and the well-being of residents. We are also responsible for providing employment services through WorkingNB, overseeing grants and bursaries to students, administering economic immigration and settlement funding programs, managing public libraries and technical and trade certifications. We work with post-secondary institutions, businesses and communities to encourage innovation, diversity, immigration access to international students and employment opportunities. 

Responsibilities

  • WorkingNB offers job counselling and services to unemployed New Brunswickers while helping employers recruit, train and retain the workers they need.  
  • Providing programs and certifications for various technical and trade occupations.  
  • Providing financial assistance for students through bursaries, grants and loans.  
  • Overseeing public libraries, including online resources, reference services, and accessibility features. 
  • Delivering adult education, literacy, and academic upgrading.  
  • Growing our province and support employer recruitment efforts through economic immigration programs.
  • Support newcomers through settlement and integration agencies and immigration navigation services. 
  • Overseeing apprenticeship and specialized training programs for specific occupations, such as forestry, gasfitting, and industrial electrician.  

Priorities

  • Growing the labour force by empowering individuals and employers through creative interventions and meaningful support.  
  • Eliminate barriers for high demand occupations in New Brunswick.  
  • Support post-secondary students and assist post-secondary institutions.
